The paralegal position at Stratagem Law Group is a run-the-matter role. Our paralegal is the person clients hear from first and rely on throughout: the one who knows where every document is, what every deadline requires, and what the attorney needs before the attorney asks.
The Paralegal Position in Brief
Stratagem Law Group handles business litigation, employment and civil rights disputes, healthcare regulatory matters, payer audits and clawback defense, corporate and nonprofit governance, and transactions. A paralegal here touches all of it. We advise clients comprehensively, wherever business takes them. As the firm adds practice teams, your role also grows with them. Because the firm is small, you will not be assigned to one attorney’s overflow. Instead, you will own the organization of matters, the calendar, the discovery process, and much of the client communication, with the managing attorney’s direction and the firm’s systems behind you.
What You Will Do
- Manage matters from intake through resolution: engagement documents, conflict checks, file setup, and status reporting in our practice management system.
- Draft pleadings, discovery requests and responses, declarations, subpoenas, and correspondence for attorney review.
- Run the litigation calendar under the Washington civil rules and local court rules, and e-file in Washington superior courts and the federal districts.
- Organize document productions, exhibits, and hearing and trial binders, and prepare deposition and witness materials.
- Support healthcare regulatory and transactional matters: entity filings, licensing applications, policy documents, and closing checklists.
- Keep clients informed, log time accurately, and help the firm’s billing and trust accounting run cleanly.
What the Paralegal Position Requires
- A paralegal certificate or degree, or at least three years of substantive paralegal experience in a Washington civil litigation or business practice.
- Working knowledge of Washington court procedure, e-filing, and the rules that govern deadlines.
- Strong drafting and proofreading. You will be the last set of eyes on many documents.
- Fluency with cloud practice management and document systems, or the ability to learn ours quickly. Experience with MyCase is a plus.
- Discretion and judgment in handling confidential and privileged information.
- The disposition the firm is known for: personable with clients, detail-oriented in the work, and unflustered when a case heats up.
We also give weight to experience in healthcare, employment, or nonprofit matters; to a Washington notary commission; and to comfort with AI-assisted tools that you verify. Above all, we value an appetite for learning new practice areas as the firm grows.
Compensation and Location
Compensation for the paralegal position depends on experience and the practice areas you bring. The role is on site at our office in Port Orchard, on the Kitsap Peninsula. We discuss compensation, schedule, and benefits directly with each candidate.
