The legal assistant position at Stratagem Law Group is the role that keeps the firm moving. Intake, scheduling, documents, filings, and billing all run through it, and so does much of a client’s first impression of us.
The Legal Assistant Position in Brief
This is a client-facing, systems-heavy role in a small firm with a statewide practice. You will work directly with the managing attorney and the director of legal operations, and you will be trusted with the details that make a practice reliable: the call that gets returned the same day, the engagement letter that goes out correctly, the hearing that is on the calendar at the right time, and the invoice that is accurate. Because we advise clients comprehensively, wherever business takes them, no two weeks look quite the same. For the right person, the role is also a path into paralegal work.
What You Will Do
- Answer and route calls and emails, conduct initial intake, and schedule consultations and meetings.
- Prepare and send engagement letters, intake packets, and client portal invitations, and maintain client and matter records in our practice management system.
- Format, proofread, and assemble documents, exhibits, and correspondence, and prepare filings for attorney review and e-file as directed.
- Maintain the firm calendar, including court dates, deadlines, and the managing attorney’s schedule.
- Support billing: enter and review time, prepare invoices, and track payments and trust deposits as directed.
- Handle mail, vendors, supplies, and the day-to-day administration of the office.
What the Legal Assistant Position Requires
- At least one year of experience in a law office or a comparable professional office, or a legal assistant or paralegal certificate.
- Excellent written and spoken communication, with a warm, professional manner on the phone and in person.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365, and comfort learning cloud practice management and document systems.
- Accuracy, follow-through, and the ability to manage several priorities without dropping any of them.
- Discretion with confidential information.
We also give weight to experience with MyCase, with Washington court rules and e-filing, or with healthcare or business clients, and to a Washington notary commission.
Compensation and Location
Compensation for the legal assistant position depends on experience and the skills you bring. The role is on site at our office in Port Orchard, on the Kitsap Peninsula. We discuss compensation, schedule, and benefits directly with each candidate.
